Awesome researcher wanted!
Paid opportunity
Are you a die-hard fan of tool libraries and also an excellent researcher and problem solver?
Then have we got a job for you!
ALoT seeks to engage a proactive person to research and present feasible solutions to our sector's insurance issues.
The results of this work will have a huge positive impact on Australia’s circular economy at a grass-roots level and we want to get cracking ASAP.
About the project
Insurance affects the ability of LoTs to operate safely. Without insurance, the risk of operating is usually too high for most organisations to manage on their own. Unfortunately, due to a range of factors, insurance is increasingly difficult to obtain for LoTs, even for libraries that have already secured insurance in the past. If the issue of affordable, accessible and fit-for-purpose insurance is not solved soon, the sector could see more closures and LoTs being unable to open.
The Insurance Project seeks to investigate barriers to obtaining public liability insurance for LoTs and present at least three feasible solutions.
Up to $12,000 is available to fund the investigation and the delivery of a final report on this issue.
Please see the Project Outline document for more details.
Candidate criteria
Our ideal candidate will already have a solid understanding of how tool libraries and libraries of things work and what they aim to do, as well as a general understanding of what issues the sharing sector faces in Australia.
Our unicorn candidate would also have a firm grasp of how insurance products work and have experience negotiating for insurance in the past.
Most importantly, the successful candidate can confidently:
identify and contact key people to discover information
interrogate unfamiliar subject matter in a way that yields relevant and usable information
think through implications of different solutions in a strategic way
pull findings together succinctly and present them logically.
If you are a post-grad research student or consultant in the circular economy space, this could be an excellent solo project to further your career! If you are neither of those, but still think you have what it takes, we would love to hear from you.
